S is the 19th letter of the alphabet, as it is used for people born in the 1900s. T is the 20th letter of the alphabet and hence it is used to separate kids born in the 2000s from kids born before.
Fun Fact!
Did you know that your NRIC number is not randomly generated by chance?
The first two numbers in your NRIC is the year you are born, and the remaining numbers represent how many kids before you were born/ registered for citizenship!
For example:
S8512345X means that you are born in the year 1985, and you are the 12,345 kid to register your birth/citizenship!
Yusof Ishak’s NRIC Number. His NRIC number is S0000001I! So, you can say that being the first president of Singapore, he’s also the first Singapore Resident!
