Climate change has been in the spotlight in recent years, with extreme temperatures and natural disasters causing major disruptions to our lives.

There are many ways to stem this tide. One of the ways we can make a difference is through recycling!

In this month’s Quick Polls,  let’s learn about people’s recycling habits!

It’s heartening to know that 9 in 10 people we polled recycle. 😉

With recycling bins readily accessible in housing estates and shopping malls, this seems like quite an easy activity to do, to help make our earth cleaner and greener!

How often do you recycle?

Sometimes when it is convenient
80%
All the time
18%
Not at all
2%

Based on 244 people polled as of 30 June 2021

While the majority (80%) of those we surveyed recycle sometimes when it is convenient, a sizeable 18% do it all the time. This appears encouraging, though more can be done as our overall recycling rate fell to 52% last year, down from 59% in 2019. Our domestic recycling rate of 13% in 2020 is also low compared with other developed countries such as the US (32%) and member states of the European Union (average of 46%).*

Undeniably, we still have some way to go before recycling becomes habitual for us. They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we hope to get there with a little effort from everyone.

Till then, let’s remember to recycle that plastic bottle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow down climate change!😊
